Within man the garden of the soul is as an inner sanctum of personal sovereignty; as if surrounded by a high wall with only one door for entry. And man’s own will is the gatekeeper to the door of the garden of the soul. God is the designer, creator and caretaker of our soul; but having given us each a sovereign will, He does not enter it unless we allow Him entry. Herein is hid the ultimate question of how to be saved; herein is unveiled one of the greatest mysteries of the world.
Satan being the lawless one has no regard for boundaries
As the thief that “climbs up some other way” (John 10:1), Satan defiles the garden of the soul by sowing his seeds over the wall. Without God’s active presence as gardener, the weeds overgrow the garden of the soul – marring the original design and intent thereof, so that you end up tripping over vines and being scratched by thorns & thistles. These are the fruits of iniquity that bruise the will as Satan tricks man into thinking that he can restore the garden of the soul himself.
Shields to hide the Shame
Man uses shields to try and hide the damage of iniquity in the soul from the sight of others. He decorates these shields with pretty logos that align him with people of like interests – logos like religion, tradition, humor, talents, intellect etc. But these shields are Satan’s suggested solutions, so behind them iniquity continues to grow and prosper, causing ever-greater damage to the garden of his soul.
But the tools Satan suggests for how to be saved only multiply the seeds & spread the damage. Because the truth is that no man can work deliverance, healing and salvation in his own soul. God alone can do this – for which purpose He gave us His Son Jesus Christ.
Religion vs. Covenant
Religion makes for a particularly dangerous shield, and so people consider themselves saved, having ‘invited Jesus into their hearts’, yet they lack the reality of His living presence working change within. For the reality of having Christ within, requires an agreement of Covenant between God & man, which is sealed by the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)
