The Two Covenants
The Lord our saviour is a God who has always had a covenant with His believers a covenant is a pact of sorts between two in which each party agrees to a certain set of guidelines by which they can interact.
It’s interesting to note that the two main parts of the Bible as we know it today is split into “the old testament and the new testament “.
What is the difference between these two you may ask?
The Old Testament is in fact the first covenant between God and man in the days of Abraham Isaac and Joseph and was spelled out under the tutorship and guidance of Mosses God’s first Knowledge steward.
The next logical question would be why God would then need a second covenant if the Old Testament is the first covenant then surely the New Testament is the second covenant?
The answer is quite simple the laws and statutes given to the people of Israel were there for the interaction between the believer and God however only that which is pure can enter that which was Pure.
Meaning the children of Israel being in the Old testament could not interact with God one on one, they had to first make atonement for their sins before they could partake of this interaction as seen in the willing sacrifice of animals in order to be purified of their sins.
However these sacrifices did not have the ability to remove sin altogether.
There for in the second covenant or new testament God gave man a gift of all gifts for the process of regeneration this gift was Christ who was the physical embodiment of God’s love for those who loved Him and it is through Christ that we sin can be removed.
Christ came to establish the second covenant through witch through His death and resurrection we are able to receive that which was lost in the days of Adam and Eve “the Holy Spirit” also through Christ’s death and resurrection we were given points of contact through which we can make homage to our Lord and saviour and are able to commune with Him.
\"Heb 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.\"
So if the second Covenant (new testament) was to be the goal of Gods plan for His believers why then did he give the First covenant (old testament)?
In the world when taught at school or college everything we learn is to enable us to efficiently function in the working environment with that which was learned.
However we cannot simply do anything without the proper knowledge of How to do it therefore we first learn the theory of what we need to be able to do and only after the theory is understood then we can be taught the practical application thereof.
So too with the effective worship of God according to His will.
These are the main facts outlaying the differences between the Old Testament and the New Testament which are actually the first and the second Covenant.
