Who is the Church of God? part 2

Is the Church Identified By Man’s Individualism?

Continuing on where we left of in part 1, we can ask once more: Who is the church of God? Is the church of God in the last days identified by man’s individualism or does God identify His church by the one doctrine of Christ?

It is helpful to learn how to distinguish between the two. When believers seek to identify ourselves with Christ by individualism we are apt to see a lot of passion and zeal. By that I am not saying that we cannot be passionate about our faith, but faith is not our passion.

What tends to happen when apostles are not first in the church of God is that faith is excluded from God’s truth and made exclusive to the emotions. This does not please God and we can understand why God would not take ownership of the church when the church excludes God’s truth from faith and replaces faith with passion.

Is it then so surprising that many consider themselves part of the church of God; saved by whatever standard of man they follow, yet will not enter the kingdom of heaven? Jesus prophesied of this, as we read in Matthew 7:20-23 “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

The Way of the Lord is Covenant
When God gave unto man the wonder of salvation, it was at the cost of the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the name above all names; and what that means to God is not about man’s ability to correctly pronounce His name, but rather to abide within the framework of truth that His name represents. Nothing less shall be accepted of God as worthy of His joy, because nothing less can result in the transformation of the soul into His image and likeness.

Again we see the need for knowledge.  We can see why Isaiah prophesied that in the true church of God, “the government shall be upon His shoulder” (Isaiah 9:6); that by His empowerment, Jesus would make His knowledge known thru people.  God being a God of order, He has always set stewards over the church of God.

And so it is now in the last days, that the Lord has called, ordained and confirmed living witnesses of His Truth as apostles of Jesus Christ (along with His prophets, evangelists, pastors & teachers), to once more gather His flock unto the unity of His holy covenant which bears the blood of Christ.  This Second Covenant (Hebrews 8:7) alone is the sanctified environment wherein the Spirit of God joins unto the knowledge of His Son, for the bringing forth of the very life of Christ within the converted covenant believer’s heart.

For the Tree Shall be Known by its Fruit

So here then emerges the church of God in power and in truth, and upon their lips is the miracle of His love as they all speak the same thing (1 Corinthians 1:10); being that which is consistent with God’s character, purpose & plan, for their utterance is Christ. And by covenant knowledge and priesthood service do they keep His Law of Grace and Truth.

These are they whom the Lord directs in the power of His wisdom, for His grace is their breath of life - encompassing His wisdom, knowledge and understanding. And His truth directs their steps upon the prophetic path of Adam’s redemption through Jesus Christ.

The church of God thus being transformed at His hand perfectly reflects His likeness; Christ governing our destiny, being the Head and we His body.
