Discernment

DiscernmentDiscernment is the ability to make a distinction between truth and error. It is important to have discernment because without it, man has no direction for his life, but looks for it in many vain things of the world (Jonah 4:11).

We were created for Gods pleasure, therefore we find purpose in Him (Revelation 4:11).

Man is always torn between what the mind thinks and what the soul experiences. We see here that the soul is trying to function with a power (Satan) which was not created for it’s design. Although people can make sense of their lives and function in society according to what the world says is healthy, they have a distorted perception of the function they were really created for (faith). This is where discernment comes in.

Mans Default is the Things of the World

A debate is where two people argue apposing views. This can range from anything to politics to gardening, however interesting the subject matter and evidence to support each case, there is always only one answer and that is what God has to say about the subject.

Do you remember what Jesus said to the Sadducees when they asked whose wife shall she be of the seven husbands that had her? for they all had her? (Matthew 22:28) Lets take a look at Jesus response:

“Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” (Matthew 22:29)

What is the point that that I am trying to make? That spiritual things must be compared to spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:13).

The Sadducees were a religious group and had knowledge of the commandments of Moses yet Jesus Said that they knew not the scriptures nor the power of God. In other words, they did not have discernment. Discernment comes from knowing God through the covenant that He provided for this to take place (his divine power). The Pharisees were another religious group that were familiar with the scriptures but were also corrected by Jesus because they had no discernment (Matthew 12:2-8). Jesus was sent to give them discernment but they rejected His council (John 1:11).

The Sadducees question was born of Theistic Law (issues and themes of life) much like the issues and themes that we hear and see on TV. (Romans 14:23). Have you ever heard this as a kid “Why don’t you watch something educational.” If you think about it, how much of TV is about the issues of this world and how to solve it’s problems and how has this ever helped your faith?

Reason Verses Logic
We see another example of this when Jesus was asked to divide the inheritance with his brother:

“And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.

And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?" (Luke 12:13-14)

What does this request have to do with faith? It has nothing to do with faith. Man has to be taught faith and how to please God. (Acts 8:31). We can see that until man is educated in the things of the covenant of Jesus Christ that He cannot discern between what is of God and what is not of God. We cannot use our knowledge of our life experience to comprehend the things of God because they are different. They are two different kingdoms. Man is not born with the instinct of faith (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Truth=Anointing=Discernment

It was Jesus Christ that came to teach us of His new covenant that brought a complete overhaul or change to the church which was passed unto His apostles. The church today is at that same crossroad as it was in the first century (Luke 5:39). The first step to pleasing God and knowing Him is this education, because like a foundation, you can’t build without it.

For this work God has chosen His own apostles to instruct the church as He did in the first century. Only when the foundation (truth/knowledge) is laid (prepared/anointing) in the heart, can believers walk in His sanctification, having the knowledge to discern between good and evil.

Learn both the roots of and why the denominational church system is responsible for the state the modern day church finds itself in today, far from the unity of the faith spoken of by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4. Despite the similarity in perspective, people can never agree 100 % with someone else entirely. Apostles Today and Church Reform - Refrain From Familiar Spirits
Samuel challenged Saul who used his passion to excuse his indifference to God. God challenges the rebellious and lawless who are as Saul today. How did the church drift into this condition?
